My roommate started a new job and I promised I would take him out to celebrate at a Japanese steakhouse. It's a pricey dinner, but so worth it.
We were seated and a family with small children were seated with us. The father asked immediately if we minded and I said of course not. I assured him that I work with children everyday and it would be ok. They had 3 boys, 4, 3 and 1..WHEW!
Dinner was an experience..to say the least. This is one of those restaurants with the fire and the show. The boys really struggled for some of it because of being scared..and bored..eating usually lasts almost 2 hours by the time you get through all the courses etc.
They were fine..I tried to help entertain the little one sitting by me and we talked most of the dinner..etc. The mom got to eat..but the dad didn't.
He thanked me and told me he appreciated me being so sweet and patient. He asked me where I worked and I told him it was no problem etc.
Well..they brought their check and they got up and left. I was paying so I asked for our check and the waitress told us that the family had paid for us.
I was so shocked. I knew it would take them a few minutes to get into the car so we rushed outside so I could thank them.
He was embarrassed and said that he was hoping to leave before we got done..he just told me he was really grateful that I was so understanding and sweet with his kids.
Seriously, our dinner was probably $60 bucks. It just made me feel great and it just goes to show that sometimes being kind and patience is the best way to go!
