Spanky
Freakishly Normal
I did a quick search on knitting before posting this. I see that a couple of women here on the boards are knitters.
I guess this is a coming out for me, so go easy...
I have to confess that I am a knitter. A male knitter. I picked it up while living overseas in Switzerland when I had little to do in the evenings in a rural area after work. I learned to knit the "English" or "Continental" style from a Swiss woman rather than the typical "American" style where your one hand releases the needle to move the yarn over the next stich.
I have knitted men's, women's and children's sweaters, vests, icelandic style sweaters, hats, socks, turtleneck gaiters. Picked up crocheting with help from my mom. She can crochet like no one's business. I crocheted a baby blanket in time to wrap my first child in when we left the hospital for the first time. I prefer knitting to crocheting.
Just wondering who knits, why you knit, what you knit, where you learned. Maybe we can post a pic or two of wares hand knitted. I will see if I can take a few pics.
It was seemingly dead for years as a craft and has come back into vogue. Especially for men, really! (NO NOT REALLY!!) I even have ladies in the neighborhood come to me to help with casting on and casting off and help with mistake corrections etc. Thought about teaching a class sometime as a volunteer at a craft store just for the fun of being a guy and teaching a group of women (it would be fun to blast a couple of stereotypes!).
