I'm sure this is a topic that's been beaten to death with a whiffle bat and a spoon over the past number of years, but Ned's recent thread about Lindsay Hollister appearing on, well, a number of tv shows, has got me to thinking - what size positive roles, women or men, do we see in television or in the movies? I mean, we all know that it's slim pickings, but there must be a few out there.
Off the top of my head, the most prominent one that comes to my mind is Melissa McCarthy, Sookie from Gilmore Girls. Not only is she drop dead gorgeous (I would so go after her if she wasn't already married... and, yeah, way out of my feeble reach), but in watching that show for six years, I've never once seen them use her weight as a hinderance. Hell, she was the first main castmember to actually have a love story work out!
and yes, try to get beyond the fact that a male watches Gilmore Girls. I swear, it has got to be the best written thing on TV nowadays.
So, any suggestions?
