This story reminds me of when I was playing at the now-defunct rock-n-roll cafe on Bleecker Street, 7 nights a week. The cook, appropriately named "Fats", didn't show up for a few nights, and when he did, he said he'd been robbed and stabbed in the belly, and he showed us the bandage. The doctor had told him his big belly prevented the blade from piercing any vital organs and thus saved his life.
Here's a similar story of a man who was run over by a car, but merely suffered a dislocated hip and minor scratches because he weighed 440 pounds.
