In an article at http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8RDHQE80&show_article=1 , one presidential hopeful is pushing mandatory health checkups. I'd rather not discuss specific candidates and parties here because I've seen similar ideas and philosophies bantered about in a variety of articles catering to the entire political spectrum.

I want to focus on the REQUIREMENT that a fat person go for regular health checkups and submit to whatever regimen of treatment their doctor prescribes. While I really would love to see more fat people voluntarily go for regular health checkups, being required to do so takes on a whole new ominous meaning considering the current War on Obesity being waged by the DHHS. This will lead to government mandated weight loss by whatever means determined appropriate by their doctor. Will it require penalties for those who chose not to submit? Will the penalties involve losing their government provided health care coverage, financial penalties or imprisonment? What will you do if this comes to pass?

We've already seen several intrusions by government with respect to a person's weight. There was the recent requirement that a adoptive hopeful father lose weight before being allowed to adopt – a circumstance that caused him to seek WLS. (I'll forever wonder if he would have chosen that approach without government intrusion.) Then there was the young fat girl in NY state who was taken from her home earlier this year. The reason? She didn't lose enough weight to satisfy the New York State Child Protective Sevices. These “events” are like cockroaches, there are ten times more than are visible. I suspect there have already been sufficient precedents established by those unpublished events. If mandatory health care is put into place, fat people will have a lot of trouble fighting against any treatments they find objectionable.
