first off, genital surgery for infants--unless necessary for survival--is completely unnecessary & awful & causes huge problems for them in later life.
secondly, the way they test sensation?!? prurient considerations aside it is a grotesque test: hey, we did this needless surgery on you.. you cool with that?
i love (read: hate) how terrifying ambiguity is to the majority of the medical profession. sure, there are good folks out there, and even the folks who may make these decisions may be overall good physicians, but this really shows the marginalization of gender & sexuality issues in modern medicine.
