You may be surprised to learn that many new laws are not being drafted by our elected officials and their staff -- No, conservative politicians at all levels are just putting their names on legislation drafted by an ultraconservative big business funded organization, the American Legislative Exchange Council (aka ALEC).

ALEC is funded by: American Nuclear Energy Council, American Petroleum Institute, Coors Brewing Company, Texaco, Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America, Philip Morris, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco, VISA, Exxon Mobil, the National Rifle Association, Amway, and others. This list makes it pretty obvious that they're not going to be looking out for ordinary Americans.

ALEC's website claims that in each legislative cycle, its members introduce 1000 pieces of legislation based on its work, and claims that roughly 18% of these bills are enacted into law. (Among them was the controversial 2010 anti-immigrant law in Arizona.)
I'm finding this more than a bit scary. How about the rest of you?
