Sometimes I miss Manitoba, where the winter was cold enough that everyone wore a parka a good part of the winter, and that was just the way that it was.
However, despite Ottawa seeming pretty cold to some people, it is possible to survive in things other than knee length bags of down. So I have my super warm down jacket, and I have a few lighter weight things, but all really more suited to skiing, sledding, or taking the boy to speed skating class.
I'm in pretty desperate need of a jacket that is a functional garment for most of the winter around here (say good for at least 45 minutes outside in at least -18C/0F type temperature), but which would look OK to wear to a theatre, or to work if maybe going out to lunch with customers, or whatever.
I did have a lined trench coat, that was not good for quite that cold, but with a warm scarf would maybe handle -10C for twenty minutes OK. But it has been defunct for a few years. The tech industry has been so casual in dress code that I've been putting off replacing it, but things are getting a little more dressy again, I think, and also as our son gets older we have a little more opportunity to go places that require dressing at least decently.
So, any of you mad geniusses of fashion know anything about warm men's coats that look dressy, and what would be current in style amongst them?
