At lunch today, the in-house canteen made Monte Cristo sandwiches. I haven't had these for ages, and it made me wonder if y'all had ever had one, and how the recipe differed. My recipe is as follows:
Preheat a non-stick griddle.
In a mixing bowl, beat 2 large eggs, and add 1/4 cup heavy cream. Season slightly with fresh ground pepper and kosher salt.
Brush one side of each peice of bread with butter. (i like to use a stiff dense bread that is almost, but not quite entirely unlike Wonder Bread), and spread mustard on the opposite side. Begin layering smoked turkey, ham, and swiss cheese and end with the other peice of bread.
Dip sandwiches in the egg batter and grill until golden brown and the cheese has melted.
Serve with Fries, and an Icy Cold Coke.
