It's pretty late, and I'm pretty tired, so forgive this post if it's, well, shit.
Anyhoo, my manager(s; husband and wife, but I typically only deal with the wife 'cause she's the FOH boss) are alcoholics. At least, I think they are. The fact that they both drink on the job (restaurant worker, FYI) is reason enough for me to suspect that not all is right. Problem is, they're also the owners, which, for obvious reasons, puts me in a tricky situation.
Y'see, I have no real love for either of 'em, but at the same time I'm worried, not only because it's unprofessional but also because it's dangerous. From what I've heard the BOH dude has burned himself and almost (almost being the key) burned other employees due to his negligence whilst intoxicated. Worse, he'll often drive home after having spent the better part of the day working on a bottle of wine.
Now, of course, were I to say anything, I'd be shitcanned, and, frankly, I can't afford to lose my job. Granted, it's a pretty slam-dunk case for wrongful dismissal, but I think that's a pretty shitty thing to do. However, I don't know what I'd do if either of them were to leave the restaurant intoxicated and get into a car crash. I have no love 'em, but I don't want 'em dead, either.
I'm stuck. I have no idea how to go about dealing with this situation. Legally I'm not bound to say anything, but morally I feel as though I'm obligated to step in.
(Mind you, I'm not talking intervention, - if they want to kill 'emselves it's not my place to stop 'em - but it's not just their health and their lives they're putting at risk with their actions.)
Your thoughts?
