So a few weeks ago I posted about the baby I nanny for and the saga that her folks had been going through with the birth mom, who had changed her mind and taken the baby back. Less than 14 hours after having her she called my boss (who was not home) 13 times begging her to come and get her, that it was too hard and she couldnt do it. The baby came home and we thought our battle was over. Court was planned for the 7th of April, this Friday, to terminate the birth mothers rights.
Unfortunatly now, the birth mother has again changed her mind. Her stories are changing each and every day. She had told us she was very distant and never spoke with her family. She had signed a document and submitted it to the courts that she had been raped, and the baby was a product of that, and now, suddenly she was not, and she knows who the birth father is, and she is going to show up in court Friday with her family, the birth father, and his family. We do not know how much of this is true, since she has proven herself a pathological liar, but she has been in contact with the social worker and she has told her the same. She changed her mind on the 59th day, when she has 60 to change her mind.
When she picked up the baby from the social service office last time, the 2 hours she was there, was enough for them to not only call DCF concerned for the welfare of the baby, but also after she gave her back, declear her mentally incometent to care for a child. She will have to battle social services to try and get the baby back. Which, most likely she will not, and since she will not let her be adopted, the baby will go into the system.
There are several ways this could play out, she could show up with no one and the judge could just take away her parental rights and let the baby be adopted, that is the least likely. She could be ordered to undergo mental and psycological evaluation, and the baby would either stay with us, or go into a foster home while that is done, she could show up with a whole bunch of family support, and maybe get the baby back, or the birth father, after DNA testing, could be granted custody.
We dont know whats going to happen. We just know that we want Emily safe, even if it is not with us. We are all doing what we can to bring evidence that the birth mother is NOT capable of taking care of her. By her own admittance, both in emaisl and the messages she left on my boss's ansering machine.
We are all preparing ourselves that Friday will be our last day with Emily, the lawyers and social worker said it just is very doubtful she will be able to remain with us. Its very sad....after almost 9 weeks, that she will be taken away for good, and handed over to complete strangers.
SO if any of you wish to say a few prayers that baby Emily remains safe, and with someone who will love her just as much as we have for the first 9 weeks of her life.
Im going away tonight, staying over thier house while we do some preperation for the court on Friday, but i beileiev I will be back online tomorrow night.
Thanks.
