Friends - (I am sending this to nearly everyone in my address book) - and Dimensions folks -
I found this story, at Speaking of Faith, to be meaningful, touching, and filled
with more hope than anything I've seen in the news for some time. It makes me think
of that famous moment during WWI, the Christmas Truce [http://history-world.org/world_war_i.htm ].
What if those soldiers from both
sides, rather than returning to the trenches and their guns, had simply walked
off the battle field, arm in arm, guns at the ready to support their
proclamation that they would not make war anymore.
It has been said that peace is too important to be left to generals. This
statement has been expanded to include politicians, and certainly, those with
great wealth who have a vested interest in war. Maybe if each of us could reach through these computer screens of ours and find someone 'on the other side' - which ever side that may be - with whom to shake hands and proclaim, two by two, that we will not support war anymore. . .
Here is my hand.
Reach out, give it a shake,
and we'll figure out what it was
we were fighting about later.
