Not to start yet another abortion thread, but what. The. Hell?
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Two fetuses will be presented as witnesses before an Ohio legislative committee that is hearing a bill to outlaw abortions after the first heartbeat can be detected inside a woman's womb.
Now call me crazy, but can they even do external ultrasounds at 9 and 11 weeks? Aren't they going to need to use a transvaginal ultrasound probe to detect a heartbeat that early? Does transvaginal US even transmit "live and in color?"
Secondarily, by introducing some law that prevents abortion if a heartbeat is detected, this would pretty much eliminate all early-term abortions since by that gestational age the woman would barely realize she's pregnant.
While I agree that these forms of counter protest are less graphic than the posterboards of aborted fetus remains, it's still yet another attempt to chip away at a law by finding a seemingly endless series of loopholes.
Part of me wonders if they will be playing "Frozen Embryos" in the background.
