Pairing Brown with Black

So, I bought this really gorgeous brown shirt from Jessica London that I'm dying to wear. It's the only brown shirt I have ever owned.

Now, my question is..would it be a faux pas to wear the shirt with black pants? Because quite honestly..I just have black or gray pants. I do have one pair of khakis but they are a sports knit and this is a dressy shirt.

I did see it in a magazine that said that the colors should be worn together..that it's a trend now.

What do you guys think?
