If you haven't checked it out yet, do so. It's fun, you can log chats (if you choose), and you chat right in a floating window inside the gmail window OR pop it out on it's own.
Nothing fancy in terms of text/smilies (although there are cute simple ones included) but it's functional, quick, and most of all lets you chat at the office without having an outside app running. LOL
Plus, I love GMail. I love that it saves "conversations" instead of a million back and forth emails, it's just such a time saver when I'm looking for something.
