Last week, I heard "It's Gonna Rain", by Jim Byrnes (Vancouver blues musician, perhaps best known to most as 'Lifeguard', from the T.V. series 'Wiseguy'), and just about went off the road when a Hammond B-3 took a solo in it.
It made me think:
What's the best use of a Hammond B-3 in a song?
Personally, I like the way it bad-assed its way through the Charlie Daniels Band's 'Funky Junky', or the way it just rode along with the vocals on 'Billy Joe Young', from Charlie Daniels (before the Charlie Daniels Band).
Organist, and singer on the second example, was Joel 'Taz' DiGregorio.
Who do you dig on Hammond B-3?
