Like most science fiction, this movie (based off an awesome book of the same name) takes a current social trend - the dwindling fertility and procreative abilities of developed nations - and extrapolates it to an extreme to study its implications.
In a way, I think that this movie actually addresses the most profound of all issues: the creation of conscious life. When you think about it, all other "hot topic" issues are dependant on the creation of life, because, of course, there wouldn't be anything to talk about or study at all without it.
Anyway, I really loved the book (which is a lot different than the movie; the book also used the dying species as an allegory for white people's dwindling religious faith and our hollowed-out churches) and the preview for the movie is just SO beautiful that I'm really excited.
Anybody in the UK seen it yet?
