I do love me a good milkshake. I love watching the condensation form on that big stainless cup as it's being made, and making sure there's none left in the cup that the counter person isn't offering to me. But when my sister gave me a milkshake machine for Christmas, I thought it was fairly useless, other than to look good on my counter (it's the die-cast Hamilton Beach, pictured here).

But now that I'm a few shakes into it, I can vow that half a cup of milk and a few scoops of Haagen Dazs chocolate produces an absolutely life-affirming milkshake. (You're looking at one of 'em below. I'm apparently looking at something across the room. Susanna Hoffs, maybe.)

So here's what I'd like to know from other home milkshakers (AnnMarie?): Got any favorite and/or inventive recipes? Ever use malted milk? Have you discovered an optimum spin time to get the best results? And at what speed? Is there a trick to removing the spindle? Will I eventually be able to make a milkshake without singing that infernal Kelis song the rest of the day? Any other tips? (I've already learned the one about unplugging it before sucking milkshake off the mixing rod.)

Nothing better than a good milkshake. Except a good milkshake... in your bathrobe. (I'll spare ya that picture.)

And say, what's the record for most uses of parentheses in one post? (Does the ratio of text to parenthetical count?) (And is there a prize involved?)
