As a performing poet myself, I just wondered if there was anyone else into the craft?
I haven't properly slammed since 2004, but last night I went to a Poet's Cafe and they gave me some info on the Slam culture here in my area. The Uk might not be so bad after all
A lot of my poetry is about angst, sexuality and being a fat girl.
I just wondered what other people wrote about....if anyone does, lol.
In Boise, Idaho I placed in 3 slams, won over $100 cash, and qualified for nationals (which sadly I didn't follow through with) and got my name in the Boise State paper for my poem "Rant of a Fat Girl" (title has changed, lol). But it was empowering to be on stage infront of about 100 people basically telling them off for judging me, lol. I go lots of applause and more than 10 people asked for copies of the poem. It was an awesome way to vent...and i'm getting back into it and I think this my be my voice to express the oppression so prevalent here in the UK.
