On a number of different occasions my dentist and his assistant told me it's wiser to brush with a soft toothbrush instead of a medium. Being born hard of head, I scoffed at that notion due to the simple fact a firmer brush feels as if it's getting the grime from my teeth better. The soft brushes don't feel like they're doing squat to clean away junk.

Is the fear that a firmer brush will damage our gums?

Miss Vickie, what says ye?
