I`m from Germany and I`m sometimes a little irritated, when I read postings in German forums or speak to people in real life. In Europe, but especially in Germany there seems not really to be a fat acceptance movement. There doesn`t even exist German SSBBW`s on the net. It would simply be impossible to open up a site like i.e. bigcuties, simply because there are no girls willing to show themselves. And I use the example of Bigcuties, because there are always nice pictures, that shows the models from their best sides. It`s no cheap porn, but well done pictures, that kind of "celebrate" the beautiness of the girls.
If I talk in Germany to others, then I can find out, that not too few men like obese or extreme heavy women. They like to watch them. But they all would not like a SSBBW on their sides, mainly because they are afraid, their friends would not accept their girlfriend then. Though this kind of thinking is not mine, I can at least understand, from where this fear comes. In fact, here in Germany fat people are watched like if they would be from another star. Often fat people get stupid remarks about their weight. And being fat appears to be much more bad, than being stupid.
And in discussions always comes up the point, that the USA have the fattest people and how bad this is. Now I`m irritated. I guess, the US-media are against fat, as the media in Germany are. But why are fat people in the USA better accepted, than here in Germany? Is it really because the US have some decades of fat acceptance work behind them? If so, what were the early steps of this fat acceptence movement? Are Americans much more tolerant in common? Do Americans simply have less prejudices? And if so, what is the difference to Germany or even Europe then?
Any ideas?
I ask, because in German forums and real life discussions there always are simply used certain prejudices about Americans. Some of these are:
- All Americans are fat
- All Americans are stupid, this is, why they are fat
- Since most of the Americans are fat, they of course accept fat people, simply because these are the majority
- Americans never walk, they always drive with the car, even for shortest distances
- Americans have no discipline
- Americans do the entire day nothing else than eat and watch TV.
This is kind of common "knowledge" here in Germany about Americans and this list is always used in mind, if the talk comes to the US-people. So a usefull discussion for the point, why in the US fat people are more accepted, than in Germany is not really possible. Since I always like to hear both sides, in hope to get a balanced picture about the truth, I ask you: Why is fat acceptance in Europe and Germany simply not existing? And why is it in the US such a powerfull movement? And are we doing something wrong over here?
