In the discussion, in another place, about this video some people defended the judge saying that more physical punishment of teenagers was needed if society was to become a better place. I commented as follows.
If strong punishment is always very effective in correcting bad behavior then all of the prisoners at Guantánamo Bay should, by now have become loyal individuals dedicated to the success of the American democracy and, therefore, can safely be immediately let go and given United States citizenship since they've been punished so much that it would be hard to find more loyal citizens.
If the above paragraph is nonsense then perhaps arguing that severely beating a teenager is good for the teenager in all cases is also nonsense .
