I just got back from the 12:05am showing of it and it was GREAT!
For those who hate theaters there's really nothing visually that requires a large screen so just wait for the DVD and buy it!
Bruce Campbell was hilarious as a Frenchman. There was lots of good laughs, and when it got serious it was just as good. Thomas Hayden Church (The Sandman) was a really, really good in his role and the role was very well written into the movie.
Only one shortcoming: Topher Grace. Who decided the malnourished little weenie could ever play a menacing villain? He didn't ruin it, but his character was much better in full CGI mode.
The theater ran 7 or 8 screens to show this movie and every one sold out. Everyone seemed to leave happy, and there was lots of clapping through the film.
Pirates of the Carribean 3, Harry Potter, and "SurfsUp" were the trailers and they all looked good. I'm kinda burned out on CGI animals but the trailer makes me think Surf's Up could be really fun. They replicate a lot of camera shots of real surfing action and it seemed to come off well in the trailer.
Next movie: 28 Weeks Later!
