Dromond
Pleasantly abstruse.
Puerto Ricans voted on a two part referendum about the future of their relationship with the United States.
Part 1 asked the question if they should maintain their current relationship, Yes or No. No is winning in the count.
Part 2 asked those who voted "No" to select one of three options. Statehood, greater autonomy, or full independence. Statehood is the clear winner thus far.
The votes are still being counted, so this could change.
If they do vote for statehood, it's not automatic. Congress has to approve it. Congress has never turned down an application from a territory to become a state.
