Just something i have noticed in some of the posts here.
There appear to be some very bigotted oppinions which, if they were adressed to other memebers of society they would be deemed as reprehensible and might even lead to a ban or at least a pretty stern telling off by a moderator.
I'm talking about some of the pretty nasty homophobic remarks and bigotted views i have read regarding gay people.
The defence for these views has been "its my religious belief".
I'm just wondering if there would be the same level of tolerance if someone were to say something like "i dont belive black people should be allowed to marry, its ok though because i'm a klan member so i'm allowed to say that cause its in my doctrine"
or "Fat people shouldnt have the same social rights as thin people, cause it inferred so in the latest issue of Cosmo".
i know that people can be afraid to stand up against homophobic remarks especially when religion is the basis for them as it would then be seen to be un accepting of religious views but i just think its pretty nasty and cant understand for the life of me why this is deemed as acceptable and the other views i pointed out are not. (obviously all views are wrong i feel..it was just an example).
Maby this is a discussion for hyde park (hide park) but i feel its something that warants some serious thinking about because bigotory on any level surely cant be tolerated, no matter who its aimed at!!??
