shitclock's tickin.
hey guys.
this thread's always been popular at a number of other forums i post on across the interdork, and i'm pretty interested to see how it fares over here. here's the idea:
1. someone posts a song (or a couple of songs, as long as they're somehow related) in whatever format they choose. links to mp3s, links to youtube videos, whatever. just try to make sure it's the best quality you can find, since muffly garbled music is never superhappy fun times. also give us a little explanation of the song or whatever, maybe why you chose it to share with us.
2. the next poster listens to the above-posted song (or watches the video, whatevs), and writes a wee blurb on what they thought of it. THEN! posts their own song for the next poster to listen to.
3. profit!
easy peasy.
the other places where i've seen this, it's been fun, but it can also get a little repetitive since most of them are specific music-related forums, so everyone is pretty likeminded. here i think the wide variety of tastes, ages, personalities, will make it much more interesting and nifty.
also, a note about niceness and whatnot: as most of you know, opinions on music can be kiiiind of a touchy subject. like i've said here before, personal tastes are really, really...personal (profound, elle), and it's always tough to know when honestly crosses over into brutality. but we're all good people, all growups, and the name of the game here is open mindedness as much as it is honesty. so give sincere feedback, but let's all be considerate.
and i will be taking my own advice on that, for the record.
:batting:
ok! i'll start.
a band which some of you may already be familiar with, called the arcade fire.
these are off their full length debut (someone correct me if i'm wrong about that) album, called funeral. it's a concept album written from the perspective of a bunch of kids in a neighborhood getting together after an adult has passed away. their parents are all indoors grieving, and they're running around outside with impunity, pondering life and death and love messing around and all that fun stuff.
it's honestly a beautiful album from start to finish, and it takes a lot for me to say that.
so here are the first two in a series of four songs (a movement? i'm not classically aware at all) at the heart of the album.
neighborhood #1 (tunnels)
(also here's the official video for tunnels, in case you're interested. i chose the other one for the main link because the sound is way better, and this is about the song, not the video)
neighborhood #2 (laika)
ok! enjoy.
