so far weight loss technologies have overwhelmingly been ham fisted failures. DBS, or deep brain stimulation looks like it might be the new frontier when it comes to reducing weight. it differs from WLS because it isn't anywhere near as scary or traumatic to the body and already has much fewer complications even at this early stage of development. similar treatments have already been used effectively for parkinson's disease etc... although it may never pan out or be a very long way away i could not help but wonder after reading the various articles where it will leave the fat community if some people one day no longer feel stuck? after all we also now have Obamacare that would make it affordable if not free for lot of people. what is going to happen to a movement that focuses more often than not on the negative aspects of being fat to keep people together? how would it hold together if people didn't have to ever think about their bodies being outside of the norm ever again? i keep thinking about all of the groups and individuals in the community who keep reinforcing and depending on the idea that it's impossible to lose weight as a reason fat folk must be involved in SA. do you think SA can stand up to the pressure of actually having being fat as a choice?
