There are people who claim that the south-western portion of the United States rightfully belongs to Mexico. This would seem to be at odds with the Californians of Mexican descent who voted for statehood, but they're not around anymore. There were Amerindians who were there before any one of European ancestry, why shouldn't there claim hold more weight? But recent studies indicate that there may have been people in the Americas who didn't resemble what we think of as Native Americans at all, and rather looked more like Australian Aborigines or Sub-Saharan Africans. What happened to them? Did Amerindians perpetrate some kind of genocide against them? http://www.suite101.com/content/the-new-world-was-settled-twice-new-study-finds-a249013 What if it turns out these Paleo-Americans were exactly like Australian Aborigines? Would that mean Australian Aborigines should be able to open casinos in America?
Europe was inhabited by Neanderthals before Homo Sapien Sapiens showed up. If I cloned a bunch of Neanderthals would they have some sort of claim to Europe? Some scientist claim that Caucasian and Asian genetic makeup can be anywhere from 1 to 4 percent Neanderthal. African blacks have no Neanderthal genes. Does that mean that African Blacks should stay out of Europe and Asia?
The point is your parents and grandparents are just accidents of birth. You didn't choose to whom you were born so there's no reason to be proud of it and there's no reason to hold you accountable for what your ancestors did generations ago. Generational ethnic grudges are pointless and counter-productive, and so is unwarranted pride that your great, great, great , great, great grandfather was king somewhere. Nobody owes you anything for wrongs perpetrated against your ancestors by people who are long dead.
That's the way I see it.
