Since Peter Jackson and NewLine have had a serious falling out since the production of the LOTR trilogy (which has resulted in Jackson basically being blacklisted from any future newline projects), there's been lots of speculation about who will man the helm if production of The Hobbit goes forward.
The latest rumor is that Sam Raimi (of Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, and Spiderman fame) will direct. He's been quoted as saying that he would love to as well.
