Ok, this is just a guess but I believe that weight is mostly packed on when asleep. The body goes to rest and most of the food is digested at this time, converting into fat.

Now the theory is this: Depending on what you wear to bed and how you sleep effects how your fat is displaced. Now this doesn't go in contrast with the pear, apple, or hourglass models. What I'm saying is that if a person who is trying to gain weight typically wears tight jeans and pj pants day in and day out will probably develop a folded/double roll belly. The crease on the stomach occurring around the belt line.

Same thing goes for the butt, if a person gaining weight sits on hard chairs and sleeps on their back most the time on stiff surfaces, they will probably develop a smaller flatter butt.

For sleeping on the stomach, sure a round butt but a flatted belly.

Sleeping on the side? Lopsided.

Theories to get a more rounded body appearance: Memory foam. This soft stuff easily spreads out the weight and recedes to fit the body, even a growing one.
Padded/comfy chairs: hell even a memory foam seat to make sure that the butt doesn't get flattened and wrinkled as the person grows.

More extreme methods:

Sleeping belly first on soft blanketing with the knees folded under to support the belly. Any fat displacement would happen at the kneecaps and toes.

Sex swing: Bindings on the arms and legs while the gainer sleeps, keeping the rest of the body off the floor, and since typically a person gaining weight doesn't in the wrists or ankles, there's really nothing to be worried about. If laying to face the ground, Gravity keeps the belly sticking outwards instead of sagging towards the legs and the rear isn't pressed preventing wrinkle/flat-butt.

Pool: Pros: Weightlessness in water
Cons: Wrinkly skin, risk drowning, body temperature related sicknesses...

Keep in mind this is just a theory as there probably isn't any real way to prove this works on multiple accounts over several years (and pounds) with consent.
