The United Methodist churches are currently engaged in debates about what if any place there is for homosexual couples in Methodist churches. Will Methodist couples, if married in Maryland or in other states, be welcomed as married couples in local United Methodist churches? Will Methodist ministers eventually be allowed to perform gay marriages? Representatives to Methodist conferences must vote on these types of issues and Methodist members at charge conferences and their official board meetings may also eventually have to vote on these issues.

Anyone who may be in a position of voting on these church issues, which includes all Methodists who are members of their local Methodist churches, should become informed, participate in discussion about the issues, and try to separate fact from fiction before trying to vote in votes directly related to local Methodist churches and Methodist conferences. The issue will also be on the general election ballot in the coming November 6 general election.

To this end Amy Adler the regional field organizer for Marylanders for Marriage Equality will be on town on October 23 which is this coming Tuesday. She will be at the New Light Metropolitan Community Church which is at 40 West Church St. in Hagerstown. She will be speaking at 6 PM. There is a huge amount of adequate parking. Her talk will be sponsored by the Washington County National Organization of Women. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Even those of you who are not Methodists should consider attending because there will be a question about marriage equality on the November 6 general election ballot.
