OK friends, here's another rant that IS worthy of the Foodee Board.

[rant] Why are tomatoes so expensive--I mean when you buy them from the supermarket?? Not only are they the easiest things to grow--but everybody grows them!!! If you have a friend that is growing ANYthing edible, chances are they're growing tomatoes! Almost every street I walk down, I'm bound to see tomatoes being grown! In their front yard, in their back yard, on their deck, in pots, in planters, in raised beds (I'm starting to sound like Dr. Suess) you'll see tomatoes being grown. I recently saw one house growing tomatoes near the curb so a stranger can just pluck one off as they gets out of their car! Even in the sketchier parts of downtown Oakland I'll see people growing tomatoes!

So what's up with the 2.87 per lb tomatoes at the store?? I feel like a king if I can afford to buy one large tomato for my salad. I know what you're going to say: "OK loudmouth, if they're so easy to grow--GROW THEM!". Well, truth is, Ava's growing some in her backyard--but that's irrelevant to this rant! But I'll tell ya what, If I had half a brain I'd dig up my backyard and just grow tomatoes and sell those puppies at the framer's market!

Back me up on this, Risible. [/rant]
