REPORTS a woman was refused to board a plane because she was "too fat" were fake, says the airline.
Newspaper La Repubblica reported Italian Anna Delluci was suing budget airline EasyJet after check-in staff told her she would have to buy two tickets.
The newspaper said before boarding the Bari to Rome flight, the 55-year-old Ms Delluci was told to step on to scales in front of other surprised passengers - which she refused.
"I'm sorry, but you're too fat, and if you want to fly with us, you have to buy two tickets," check-in were alleged to have told the 98kg passenger.
But a day after the report surfaced, EasyJet confirmed the story was a hoax.
The airline said following an investigation they discovered the incident did not in fact occur and was a hoax story reported to the media by a member of the public.
"EasyJet's policy regarding larger passengers is to recommend that if they feel they will need more than one seat, to purchase one," the airline said in a statement.
