Big Beautiful Dreamer
ridiculously contented
OK, so it was a rare day when I didn't have to get all cleaned up and drive 45 minutes today because I didn't have to be on campus for anything, and was seriously looking forward to the time saved and to making some forward progress on the three term papers I have due in the next three weeks.
So I open my laptop at the dining room table/desk and turn it on. Fine. I plug it in. Fine. Suddenly ... <boOOoop> it turns itself off. And will not turn back on. No, it's not the battery, we just got a new one in September. Just a completely random Total Death Moment.
Many words came to mind, most of which I probably shouldn't say out loud.
My husband the saint said he would run it by the Geek Squad. So I settled down reluctantly to wading through my sources and taking notes by hand for the time being.
He left about 12 and came back at 1:30 with lunch and a new laptop ... and since it's been three years since we purchased the Now Dead Laptop, they've gotten ever so much smaller and cuter!
I just thank every god who has ever been (and especially Yhwh) that I'm compulsive about backups and had everything on my flash drive, because, as per usual, the Geek Squad folks where we live don't seem to be able to do much beyond packing it up to send out, and the turnaround is three weeks. Um, term papers are all due in three weeks, 'member? Term ends for me on December 8. I would be bald and fetal about now if I didn't have my documents.
I know, in my frighteningly tame world this passes for excitement. I'm just astonishingly glad that my husband responded ... by BUYING A NEW FROCKING LAPTOP. How great is that?:smitten:
