Have clothing sizes, especially within plus sizes gotten bigger within the last few years? I think it's called vanity sizing, but when I hear that phrase I imagine people who wear a size 6 fitting into a size zero.
Anyway, Since I was 14 years old, I have weighed over 300 pounds. In fact, I have a very specific memory at the age of 16. I went to the doctor for a prescription for fen-phen and when weighed, I was 337 lbs. I was the same height that I am now (5'8), but the thing is I could barely fit into Lane bryant's clothing. I remember at the appointment, I wore a pair of pants from the store that didn't zip up with the button straining. I could barely fit into a 28 at the time.
Fast forward 12 years and approximately 13 more pounds, I go on to try Lane Bryant's pants and jeans. I still don't get their new sizing system, but forget that. Not only do I fit into their bottoms at 350 pounds, I need to wear the equivalent of a size 26?! I can also fit into their dresses, which as a teen I never fit into at all. I still have items from the old LB: a beautiful winter coat my mom bought me when I was 15 that can't button up all the way (It's a gorgeous classic coat, in excellent condition, I can't part with it) and a peasant shirt I bought 9 years ago, that's still rather tight and pully across my belly. It seems they weren't as generous with the sizing back then.
This is also happening at other retailers at well, especially Target (except their juniors line grumble grumble). Where were all these options years ago? It's really messing with my head here!
