RORSCHACH'S JOURNAL.
OCTOBER 12TH, 1985:
Dog carcass in alley this morning, tire tread on burst stomach. This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face.
The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown.
The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"...
...and I'll look down, and whisper "no."
--Alan Moore, Watchmen
It was twenty-two years ago today, in a world quite different than our own, yet in some ways, strikingly similar, that Rorschach scribbled these words.
The cold war was on hold, with the Soviet Union rendered impotent as Dr. Manhattan kept America's interests free of the Red Menace, under President Nixon.
Dirigibles transported people through the skies, while electric cars hummed over the roadways.
KT-28s were the drug of choice for knot-tops walking the streets in search of trouble or a good time.
A Comedian had taken his last bow.
Watchmen fans, this is your thread.
