Okay, I have this info on GS Cookies, and I generally don't share it because honestly... who gives a crap? BUT, I do, and it's a big deal to me, so I figured since we have so many other people who are particular about their eats, you might care as well.

All GS Cookies are not created equal!

There are two bakeries who have the contract to make GS Cookies. They are Little Brownie Bakers (as far as I know, if that has changed in the past year, then I may be mistaken) and ABC Bakeries. LBB has the rights to names and proprietary recipes on certain types of GS Cookies.

You may notice that if you get GS Cookies they go by different names (or you thought they had a name change-not true!)

Samoas and Caramel DeLites both exist and are distributed by the different bakeries to different areas of the country. Samoas are the original and made by LBB, Caramel DeLites are the knock-off (hence they can't have the name!) and made by ABC. They are "almost" as good, but not. The true Samoas are thicker, more gooey goodness, and an overall better cookie.

My biggest beef is with Do-Si-Dos. They are my second favorite GS Cookie, and the REAL variety (again, made by LBB) are excellent. A solid, but not HARD oatmealish cookie with a lovely peanut butter center. They're basically a fantastic NutterButter.

The knock off Do-Si-Do is called a "Peanut Butter Sandwich" and the cookie is HORRIBLE!!!!! It's hard, slightly shiny, over baked and cracks. It's somewhere between a cookie and a dog biscuit if you can picture the texture. I had them about 3 years ago and then swore off them (until a year or so ago, I was able to get the LBB cookies shipped in from a scout mom in another part of the country!).

I tried again this year, and GOD they're just as horrible as I remember. I was able to save them by submerging them in hot chocolate. When wet, you can't tell how terrible they are.

So, kids, if you want the BEST GS Cookies, only buy the ones with the name you know or find out what the bakery name is listed on the box.

If you buy cookies on ebay (yes, you can buy GS cookies on ebay) make sure you ask the seller before you purchase what the actual name of the cookie is on the box.

If you get Thin Mints or Trefoils, I believe the name is the same either bakery, so if you want to be safe, just ask the seller for the bakery name.

Okay, that's all... and if I've helped any of you, this was all worth it.

:)

This is an imposter!!!! (although almost the same, but beware!)
