If you wonder where the forums went for the past few hours, well, things were kaput for a while. A couple of people had stated the fonts were too small and unless I fixed it, they would leave. So I researched the issue and came across a way to add subsidiary styles with larger fonts. I began implementing that when Murphy's law kicked in and the system crashed on me. I brought it back just to find that the styles were hopelessly messed up. I could not even delete the corrupted styles.
I downloaded and installed the very latest version of vBulletin, 3.5, which had come out within hours after I had bought and installed 3.0.9. Sadly, while the install went well, the upgrade simply loaded the corrupted styles from the database. So still no go.
So I decided to go into the database tables themselves, which is a bit scary if you haven't experience with that sort of thing. Googlee to the rescue, and within a coupld of hours I felt I knew enough to manipulate the rows in the MySQL tables directly. It was pretty scary... But the operation apparently worked and the system seems to be back.
In the process I also allocated 50% more bandwidth to this server, in the hope that this will speed things up. I had to take it from somewhere else, and I hope it'll all work out.
Now I have to go and grab me some lunch.
