Mayor of Fatopia
i just wanted to get some feedback from the peanut gallery... as a diversity specialist having an emphasis on discrimination practices, i tend to view all media critically... HOWEVER, it is within the past few months i have been most infuriated by the nasty tactics being employed by weight watchers and nutrisystem (for men)...
for those who have not seen these disgusting displays, allow me to give you a rundown...
1. weight watchers: the commercial begins with clips of women around sizes 18-20 with captions running across the screen stating "for the woman who feels like the fattest woman in the room" coupled with background music - cher's "song for the lonely" (if you haven't heard the song, i highly recommend it - well, that and boycotting cher!)... by the end of the commercial the self-loathing, depressed, lonely fat woman has found a group of "weight watchers" to transform her miserable worthless life...
2. nutrisystem for men - please note that this is FOR MEN! this commercial is narrated by a man who talks about "real food for real men!" "burgers, pizza, dessert"... 21 meals a week of delicious hearty food that a MAN can enjoy... complete with pictures of food running across the screen and testimonials by some of the "real men who have had real results"... the benefits of this program - "i look great! i feel great! and MY SEX LIFE HAS REALLY IMPROVED!"
have you seen these commercials??? have you had an emotional response to my descriptions????
I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
