In a few minutes I'll be representing a 15 year old African American kid who's being charged with sex crimes because he had consensual sex with his 13 year old girl friend in the field behind their school. And they're not charging him with misdemeanor illegal intercourse -- no the DA is charging him with child sexual abuse (i.e. a serious and violent felony intended to severely punish pedophiles).
The kid has a 3.4 GPA and decent school history. I've never seen this kind of draconian prosecution when the alleged perpetrator was white (or even Hispanic).
