Big Beautiful Dreamer
ridiculously contented
Folks, we're still more than 400 days from the election and already someone's turned up the ugly quotient.
I'm getting separate PM requests and reported post request to ban various posters. Some folks want me to wield the lifetime-ban wand.
First up: Everyone please simmer the hell down. No one is obligated to respond to a post, even a post that makes you aggravated when you read it.
Second up: At the moment, there are three or four active posters who are busy playing laser tag against each other, with the result being that they appear to be more concerned with scoring direct hits than with actual discussion.
I have dealt with these posters both privately and publicly. There is no need to come running to me saying, "So-and-so did such-and-such."
Third up: Posters' significant others, unless they also post in Hyde Park, are off limits.
Enough already with the broad-brush comments. I'm thrilled to see HP continue to have many active discussion threads. I'm less thrilled when I open up active threads to find nothing more than continuing comments about the media, how stupid you must be to support This Politician, and insults about fellow posters.
Finally, let's talk about banning.
First, banning is different from time out. It gets really old when posters say, "I got banned for saying this, shouldn't he get banned for saying that?" An accumulation of 5 points of infractions results in the person being on time out until enough infractions expire for the number to drop below 5.
I'm vividly aware that the infractions expiration thing has a glitch in it. Please report infractions that aren't expiring on time to Admin - it's above my pay grade to fix them.
Second - in my five years, I'm aware of only one person who got banned. That was HappyFatChick, who was also multiple other people and who made a career of sorts out of spamming people, Facebook-stalking them, and was even internet infamous for it. And that banning took place only after lengthy and repeated discussions among all the mods and Conrad.
Trust me when I tell you that it is much, much simpler for you to ignore - either informally or by blocking - posts or posters that make your blood boil than it is for us to ban anybody.
