Actually that doesn't appear to be in the cards. Young Americans are increasingly liberal. This continues a long-term trend. Even during the height of the New Deal an African American president and gay marriage would have been inconceivable. Indeed even during the dark days of the Reagan administration liberal causes moved forward (i.e. the gay right's movement coelessed and the environmental movement became more organized and mainstream).
