So I was referred to the dermatology clinic by my GP, as I had developed a cyst on my face.
Dermatology clinic tell me I am obese (really, I had never noticed?) and it is probably hormonal and refer me to endocrinology.
Rude doctor in endocrinology takes a medical history (fair enough they have to ask questions about sexual history etc. but she does this in front of a male intern without asking me if I mind) and prescribes a drug which is supposed to help with insulin resistance. She prescribes this drug at the same time as sending me off for tests for insulin resistance, diabetes and hormonal levels etc. She tells me the drug is good because I "may even lose weight". I am 6 foot one inches tall and weigh about 260 pounds. I wear an Australian size 20.
I decide to wait to see if I actually HAVE any one of these conditions before I take the drug, which via research I discover has all sorts of side effects and the reason people drop weight on it is because it makes them sick, as in gives people nausea, reduces their appetite.
I get the results of the tests via my GP, who tells me I do not have a sugar problem, insulin resistance problem or any major hormonal imbalance, except my stress hormones are a "little on the high side". She tells me under no circumstances to take the drug I was prescribed as she believes it is fairly dangerous and says "oh you may want a copy of the report from the endocrinologist".
I am described in the report and "humongous" by the endocrinologist.
She states she examined me in the report, but it was hard to gather any meaningful information due to the "enormous amount of fat" I am carrying.
At no time during the endocrinology consult did this doctor examine me. I sat on a chair opposite her and she asked me questions and wrote notes.
I am absolutely angry and feel like making a complaint. I want to refuse to be treated this way by anyone, let alone a doctor. I am gobsmacked this doctor lied about examining me. I am insulted that she treated someone who is fat with such disdain.
I have no issue with doctors wishing to address my weight. After all this is part of how they are trained. My GP encourages me to drop some weight, however, she does so respectfully and tells me she will be really happy if I lose even 20 pounds. She has told me in no uncertain terms she would never prescribe a drug specifically for me to lose weight as she believes these are harmful.
Anyway, thanks for the forum to vent. And I am seriously thinking of making a complaint.
