September/October would work best for Bio and I. Reason being, his work is busiest during the summer months of June, July and August. Plus, the temperatures can get just too hot to be comfortable.
I'm thinking Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park - rates are reasonable; the State Park campgrounds are usually well maintained; dogs are allowed (important for us); plus, there's a lodge for those without tent or RV.
There are other campground options, however.
