Bullying OK in Michigan as long as it's for "Religious Reasons"

But the Michigan legislature is doing its best to make me hang my head in shame. On Wednesday, the Republican-controlled state senate passed an anti-bullying bill that manages to protect school bullies instead of those they victimize. It accomplishes this impressive feat by allowing students, teachers, and other school employees to claim that “a sincerely held religious belief or moral conviction” justifies their harassment.

Are you KIDDING me? This isn't going to teach anyone anything, and now all bullies are going to claim that it's part of their religion. They also had the gall to name it "Matt's Safe School Law" after one of the kids who killed himself due to bullying.

The Michigan GOP screamed at the top of their lungs about "no protected classes" and then they demand that a clause be added to protect the religious? Are you kidding?! This is unreal, and I just cannot believe that this was even passed.

It's a sad day for kids in Michigan, who are essentially told, "Those bullies that beat you/make fun of you can do it for religious reasons, and there is nothing we can do."
