I was able to access some interesting Central Intelligence Agency data. If obesity is defined as having a BMI of 30 or above then about 75% of the adults in American Samoa are obese. At birth the life expectancy of a child born in American Samoa is about 75 years of age.
Data I accessed did not give details about the quality of the medical facilities in American Samoa but it is at least probable that they are not up to the standards of the best medical facilities in the continental United States.
A seemingly inescapable conclusion is that obesity is not nearly as deadly as people would have you believe. There are other possible conclusions but they are a little more far-fetched and a little more difficult to provide good data for.
