Well, at least according to the American Medical Association, who yesterday made that classification. If you haven't read about this, please take the time to read about it. Here's one from my local TV station:

So, how does it feel to be an American now diagnosed with a disease? I'm pretty sure the AMA had the "best of intentions" when they did this, thinking that fat people could get more assistance from their health insurance companies if they wanted to lose weight (regardless of reason), but in the process it's sparked a new wave of fat prejudice and hate.
Some of my friends in the size acceptance community have reacted to it, and have started a petition to request that the AMA cease defining obesity as a disease. If you agree, please take a minute to sign the petition.
