Not exactly fat in the media, but really something about society. I came across this poem by German writer and poet Heinrich Heine (1797-1856). It went:

Welcher Frevel, Freund! Abtrünnig
Wirst du deiner fetten Hanne,
Und du liebst jetzt jene spinnig
Dürre, magre Marianne!
Läßt man sich vom Fleische locken,
Das ist immer noch verzeihlich;
Aber Buhlschaft mit den Knochen,
Diese Sünde ist abscheulich!
Das ist Satans böse Tücke,
Er verwirret unsre Sinne:
Wir verlassen eine Dicke,
Und wir nehmen eine Dünne!

No translation program gets this nearly right. So I did the translation myself:

What outrage, friend! Abandoned
you have your fat Hanne,
And now love that ridiculously
skinny dried-out Maryanne!
Succumbing to the pleasures of the flesh,
That’s understandable;
But courting bones,
Such sinning is despicable!
That is Satan’s evil work:
He’s confusing our senses:
We abandon a fat one,
and settle with a thin one!
