(This was prompted by things Rainyday and Carrie and AM were saying.)
I have two cats, Hermione and Ursula. I love them both.
Hermione is black and white with white whiskers and very physically affectionate and sheddy and polydactyl and halitosical (?) and kinda standard-sized and cute. Cute cute. Ursula...is that deep deep chocolatey-brown that is black except in direct sunlight and also has big adorable eyes and a big adorable vocabulary and a very expressive tail and hates to be picked up but is affectionate too.
The real difference? Ursula is a total chubster, and it just KILLS me how adorable and physically appealing it is. I'm constantly calling her 'chubster' and 'fatty' in these coochie-coo ways (please don't gag), kvelling over how cute she looks lolling with her paws in the air with that big furry tummy all exposed, squealing when she does things that highlight her roundy size. It's just so...adorable. Somehow it makes everything she does cuter. And although she hates to be picked up, sometimes I'll carefully grab her from behind; pick her up in a way so that she can't flail her claws at me, and just enjoy her big-boned, muscley, fat, fluffy, heavy weight (while her fat paws cast about! heee!). I even find it cute that she can't jump up places Hermie can't! (Oh my god, I'm an immobilizer! Well, not, actually--they get scrupulously similar portions of cat chow every day and give creedence to the idea of genetics affecting size).
I'm a cat FA...aren't I. I actually worry that Hermy thinks I like Ursie more! Er, sometimes. And it's not always cute; when Ursie suddenly lands on my sternum while I'm watching a movie, it's fairly heart attack-inducing. But still. It's just so CUTE! Anybody else deal with this?
I'd post some audio/visual aids but super-black cats don't photograph like anything but dark blobs most of the time, especially the chubby ones.
