Well, this morning, a weekend of course, I wake up to find all my servers and sites inaccessible. And my IPS, which is in the same building as my office, is inaccessible as well. So, sigh, I have to drive to the office to see what's wrong.

No one in the building. My servers are all fine, so that is not the problem. Eventually someone from the ISP's staff trundles in and is baffled to hear that they are down. Eventually a couple others show up and start working on the problem: their main router had quit shortly after midnight. Nice. Apparently, the concept of redundancy or auto notification has yet to make it into the sleepy Sierras.

I am definitely going to look into an nothe hosting solution. I've had it with an internet service provider who seems unclear on what the "S" in ISP stands for.

Fortunately we didn't lose any data. However, I ran a bunch of commercial sites on my servers, and my tech clients probably wil not be happy.
